Quick chat after taking two more supers of honey. Hot work but ploughing through the season. Probably back for more next week!

Welcome back to a Beekeepers Diary podcast. It is now the 28th of June. Welcome back. Thank you for listening and pressing play once again. Back down the apiary. And it is just after midsummer and just at the tail end of another heatwave. It's obviously been a productive time in the colony for our bees.
00:31
standing here under the shade of some lime trees which smell incredible. The flowers are out, the bees have found them and so I think this week if it stays reasonable there could be a nice bumper crop of lime coming in but the smell just to walk up to these lime trees. I'm doing it right now. Oh sniffing them, just incredible. Might be one of my favourite smells.
01:00
get the pigeon sorry about that. m Yeah so there's bunch of lavender, sorry lime trees just here and then looking at the colonies both are producing well. I've had a super off each of them and which I'll be taking back to extract now so that will be
01:27
four supers. I think I had about 35 pounds off my first extraction so hopefully for something similar this time. And yeah, I've put empty supers underneath both of them but for a bit of fun I've put one is for cut comb.
01:48
It's a box that they call Ross rounds. You can create circular discs of cut comb that you can just push out box and sell. It's quite expensive to buy but if I sell at £10 per cut comb
02:07
I'll get my money back and then some. So fingers crossed the flow. I've probably done it late in the year to try it this year, but next year it'll definitely be productive. So yeah, let's just put it on. Let's see what happens this year. So that was good.
02:24
These bees are still very followy and annoying so you have to go and stand in the shade for a while before coming back to the car but they're not stingy, they're not a problem on the hands as such, they're just a bit annoying trying to get back to the car. So yeah, quick summary. I a quick look in the brood nest, all is good, laying well, still plenty of eggs so the queen hasn't gone off. Lay, this can sometimes happen.
02:51
space in the brood, it's not backfilled with too much nectar but they are making uh brace comb in between the supers so I've taken that out as best as I can so we don't squash bees when we put the boxes back together. Fresh supers in ready for another week of nectar collection so I'm going to go home now spin these frames out so that's going to be me for the afternoon.
03:16
But then come back next weekend, rinse and repeat because think two more supers will be capped off and ready to go. Hope you're all having a good week and catch you next time. Busy busy.
